Project 1: Preliminary Studies
The Preliminary Studies is a preparatory assignment that focus on investigating basic notions of the city and learning from examples of community library around the world. This assignment aims to firstly introduce students to the basics in urban design and its relation to architecture ad secondly, studying and determining the programmatic function, societal role and spatial layout of a community library and architectural responses for urban infills.
The Preliminary Studies comprises of three components: Site documentation, Site Analysis and Precedent Studies of Urban Infills and Community Library. The Site Documentation and Site Analysis will equip students with a firm understanding of the site they will be working with this semester, while the Precedent Studies will provide an insight into architectural responses for designing an urban infill community library.
The chosen site for Studio v is Jalan TAR, KL. There is a real life scenario to establish the possibilities for a Community Library to connect to the urban community, the young adults as being the user-group.

Project 2: Final Project
After the Preliminary Studies, this final project will be focusing on designing a community library within an urban infill site. The objectives of this assignment are to take into considerations key aspects of urban design an d context in relation to architecture, to develop an awareness and basic compliance to Design Codes and Statutory Requirements, to emphasize the importance of elevational context and composition in developing architectural design and to implement and explore the conceptual, schematic and design development phases is an architectural design project.
Jalan TAR gives an impression of surprising through its interconnected alleys, scale of buildings and programs. As library usually gives a dull and boring impression to the public, the intention of this library is t capture the characteristic of the site - Jalan TAR, which is the sense of surprise and to create community libarry that is more lively and could become a gathering space for the community. The surprising elements that are interpreted from the site which are the programs, contrasting of height, visual connectivity and different angle of circulation have been used to design the library of surprising.
