BUILDING CONSTRUCTION II BLD60703

Project 1: Skeletal Construction (Temporary Bus Shelter)

The objectives of this project are to create an understanding of skeletal structure and its relevant components, understand how a skeletal structure reacts under loading, demonstrate a convincing understanding of how skeletal construction works and be able to manipulate skeletal contruction to solve an  oblique design problem.

In a group of six, our task is to construct a temporary bus shelter which can accomodate 5-6 people, demonstrate the knowledge of skeletal frames and its joints and clearly define all building components such as roof, column, walls and floor.

Project 2: Understanding Forces in Building Construction

The objectives of this project are to create an understanding of building components used and its assembly, demostrate good drawing skills in builidng details and how it reacts under loading and force and be able to manipulate the selection of materias used and ensure its buildabilty.

In a group of 4, we have chosen a gridshell building-- Savill Building. Through this project, we have a better undertanding about the construction details, load distribution and structural movement of gridshell building.  This project enable us to analyse the issues of strength, stiffness and stability of structures including modes of structural systems, forces, stress and laws of static.
